Job Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing environmental health and safety policies, procedures, and programs within the Agriculture and Environmental Science department. This role requires a strong understanding of agricultural and environmental science practices, as well as knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance standards. The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the department's operations align with industry best practices and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement, and maintain environmental health and safety policies, procedures, and programs for the Agriculture and Environmental Science department.
2. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate control measures.
3. Provide guidance and support to department personnel on environmental health and safety issues, including training programs, safe work practices, and emergency response procedures.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to mitigate environmental risks, reduce waste, and promote sustainable practices.
5. Monitor and evaluate ongoing compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental health and safety.
6. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
7. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to environmental health and safety activities, including incident reports, training records, and permits.
8. Stay abreast of emerging environmental health and safety regulations and industry trends, and recommend necessary changes to policies and procedures accordingly.
9. Liaise with external regulatory agencies, auditors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and resolve any environmental health and safety issues.
10. Conduct periodic reviews and assessments of departmental procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate changes.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Proven experience (X years) as an Environmental Health and Safety Manager or similar role within the agriculture or environmental science industry.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations, standards, and practices.
- Strong understanding of agricultural and environmental science processes and related hazards.
- Excellent analytical skills to identify potential risks and develop effective control measures.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Proficient in conducting inspections, audits, and accident investigations.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and standards.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional certifications in environmental health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) are preferred.
